Google Analytics: Multi-Line Graphs

December 20th, 2007 · 4 Comments

As well as the new tracker, Google have made a small but welcome change to the Analytics dashboard. Now, we can get easy visual comparisons of the following metrics:

  • Visits
  • Pageviews
  • Pages/ Visit
  • Average Time on Site
  • Bounce Rate
  • Percentage New Visits

Any two metrics can be viewed on the one graph, or a single metric can be viewed over two time periods.

This is what it looks like:

Google Analytics - Two Metrics

To use this feature, click on the arrow at the top right corner above the graph and you’ll get access to the dropdown. Once you’ve made your selection, click it again to hide it:

Google analytics - select metrics
Google analytics - select metrics

At this time it’s limited to only two metrics. But that’s still pretty handy.

    Great article! I’ll stop by more often to see what you’re writing about.

    where do you put the analytics code in a wordpress (and cutline!) blog? thanks, David

    @Chris, thanks!

    @David, you need to put it right before the closing body tag which is Cutline is in the footer.php file. Although you can actually put it anywhere between the body tags, this is the best place because it’s the last code to execute and your analytics stats will show +full+ page views. Small point, but it adds a little accuracy.
