Most Websites Don’t Perform

The overwhelming majority of websites, even some big flashy corporate ones, go day after day with virtually no visitors and no obvious business benefit. For all the effort, time and money that went into their production – they simply waste a great opportunity for more business.

There’s never been a better time to use the Internet to improve your business – the profits can be amazing, the costs minimal, and the potential for new business (that you never knew existed) is endless.

But it’s not as easy as just putting up a glamorous website. That helps, of course, but your prospects need to know it’s there in the first place (that’s why search engines like Google are so important). And once your prospects arrive, they need to be guided to the information they want (and be encouraged to take whatever action you want to take).

Two Website Outcomes You Need To Get Right

At Stratify, we help our clients achieve two really important outcomes.

  • First, we drive interested, motivated, “buy right now” prospects to your website (or websites). We use two complementary techniques to raise traffic to new levels – organic search engine optimisation (always), and paid search marketing (sometimes).
  • Second, we use visitor data and analytics tools to find out what works on your website, what doesn’t, and what changes may be needed to improve performance. Sometimes problems are obvious, but usually this is an iterative process. We make a change, measure the results, and keep what works best. Step by step, your website ends up streets ahead of your competition in every measure.

One thing we don’t stress about is standalone website design. Our work is centred on the processes behind your website rather than its appearance; however there’s always changes required (usually just to the invisible webpage code) and we’ll work with your webmaster to make sure these get implemented correctly.

How Much It All Costs

At Stratify, we work for you on an hourly rate plus expenses at cost.

For a small website, ten pages or less, expect the cost to be around $1,500 plus GST. For medium-size websites of about 50 pages, the figure is closer to $4,000 plus GST. For larger websites, and for database-driven websites, we provide estimates on a case-by-case basis.

What’s Included

The basic work we do includes these components:

  • An analysis of your online competition, because we want to focus in on the tactics we can use to beat them.
  • Keyword research, because we want to optimise every page on your website to correlate with the most popular terms people search for.
  • Web analytics setup, because we want to capture as much visitor behaviour data as we possibly can for detailed analysis.
  • A review of every page of your existing website, because we want to identify any obvious usability issues (for example, broken links, non-working scripts, and poor navigation), as well as any missing data elements (used by search engines when they index each page and determine search relevancy).

Wearing our search engine optimisation hat, we author a report that details the changes to be made on every webpage that, in our opinion, will maximise your chances of getting a high search engine ranking for your target keywords. We can’t guarantee first page rankings (no-one can except the search engines themselves), but we do guarantee better positioning within weeks.

Your webmaster uses this report to implement simple changes in your website code. When you tell us to, we’ll manually submit your entire website to the four major search engines so they will revisit and update their index.

Other Business-Boosting Techniques

We can go a lot further if you want us to. For example:

We can implement a formal testing regime to incrementally change key parts of your website for better performance. For example, minor changes to the colour and size of headlines can impact conversion rates by 30% or more; simply moving navigation or action buttons can increase clickthroughs by a similar amount. Our goal here is not to reason why; we make a change, test, make another change, and test again. The end result is individual webpages that have been fine-tuned to the real-life expectations of your audience, and measured using real-life data capture.

We can implement a paid search marketing campaign that will yield an immediate traffic boost. Google’s AdWords program places small text ads above and to the right of normal search results, and (optionally) on millions of websites around the world. An AdWords campaign can be as big or small as you want it to be, and can be ramped up or down, or even paused indefinitely, to suit your capacity for new business at the time. When done correctly, an AdWords campaign can produce new business that’s a fraction of the cost of other advertising channels.

We can implement a linkbuilding campaign, designed to further boost your search engine rankings through the inferred value of a link from someone else’s website to yours. The search engines pay attention to this; more links from websites with a similar “theme” to yours signals the search engines that your website has credibility in your market. As a result, your rankings improve. Linkbuilding is an ongoing activity that, nowadays, is the only way to get page 1 rankings for popular search terms.
